Police look to public for help finding suspect in kidnapping, robbery case

Lethbridge police are asking the public to help find a suspect in connection to a kidnapping and robbery.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says officers responded to a report of a break and enter at a home along the 200 block of South Parkside Drive South on April 23 around 11:30 p.m.

“A 72-year-old female reported that an unknown male, who initially identified himself as a police officer, entered her home and demanded money,” reads a news release from LPS. “When cash could not immediately be provided, the victim was kidnapped by the male, forced to drive to a bank along the 600 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South and withdraw money. An undisclosed amount was provided and the victim was returned to her home unharmed.”

The man fled the home. Police say he is described as about 5’9” tall, average or muscular build, in his late 20s or 30s. He was wearing all black clothing, gloves and a face covering.

“In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, police are not in a position to disclose further details or evidence in relation to the many investigative steps that have been undertaken,” LPS says.

Police are asking anyone who has information that could assist with the investigation to contact them.

Anyone who has information that could assist investigators, no matter how insignificant it may seem, is asked to call police at 403-328-4444 and reference file 23008867. Anonymous online tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
