RCMP warning farmers of online grant fraud

Farmers are being warned about a potential online grant scam. The warning comes after officers investigated an incident where a victim allegedly signed up for a grant off a Google search.

Police say the website asked for a fee to be submitted upfront, along with a business plan, and the victim asked for a refund after receiving nothing back regarding the funding application. The victim called 310-FARM and was told that the grant was a fraud and legitimate programs would not ask for fees or referrals up front, as it is illegal.

Farmers are also being advised is they are unsure about if a program is legitimate or not, they can call the Alberta Farmers’ Advocate Office at 403-742-7901 or 310-FARM.
