Winter Storm Watch prompts winter driving safety reminder

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for regions west of Lethbridge. The watch, issued at 4:35 p.m. on Thursday, December 6th, is for Cardston – Fort McLeod and Magrath.

According to the National Meteorological Organization, the watch is due to the “dramatic change in weather pattern, with snow developing Thursday morning.” According to the watch, the region could get 10 to 15 cm of snow.

“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.”

Those needing to travel are being advised to drive to the weather conditions, keep others up to date on their travel plans, and let them know when you have arrived where you are going. Other tips include having a fully charged cell phone and emergency kit in your vehicle.
