Bike lane education videos highlight cyclist and motorist safety

A two-part bike lane education video series is being released highlighting safety for cyclists and motorists. The videos are filmed in downtown Lethbridge to help show residents how to safely navigate the newly constructed bike lane network.

Collaboration and expertise from the Lethbridge Police Service, in addition to several City of Lethbridge departments helped form the safety messaging in the series. Sgt. Ryan Darroch of the Downtown Police Unit, which often patrols the area on bicycles, guides viewers through the safety messaging and tips.

A “Can Bike” cycling skills workshop is being hosted by the City June 22. The workshop is designed for people with beginner-level experience on a bicycle. Participants must be over the age of 18 to register and spots are limited. Registration will open in the coming weeks for this workshop with information being made available through the City’s website and Facebook page.

Part one of the City’s bike lane safety video is available now, with part two dropping later this month. Part one focuses on tips and safety messaging for motorists with part two highlighting the same for cyclists.

Local cyclists interested in checking out the new bike lanes may be interested in joining this weekend’s Jane’s Walk events. There are two cycling tours scheduled to take place downtown and one in the River Valley. Details and information can be found on the Jane’s Walk website.
