City Hall to light up blue, green and red for Economic Development Week

Work being done by the Economic Development Lethbridge is being recognized and celebrated during Economic Development Week.

Board Chair & President, Timothy Hachkowski says the week allows the local organization to share the impact that economic development work has on the region. He explains the strategies and priorities that are part of the group’s business plan, not only taking time to achieve results but effort, resources and passion.

“I do think it is important to also take some time as a community to let EDL know, that with them working for the betterment of Lethbridge and area along with government partners and other economic development organizations, that we appreciate their hard work.”

Work EDL is working on includes positioning the city as an agri-food and manufacturing hub, and a transportation and logistics hub. Innovation in health, education, technology, and alternative energy are other areas being focused on.

CEO, Trevor Lewington says part of what makes the week so exciting is knowing the number of organizations across the province that are working to support their community, and it’s not just something happening in Lethbridge.

“Celebrations like Economic Development Week are a time to locally thank our partners and stakeholders, but also take a wider look and give recognition to those economic development organizations and professionals who are innovating and constantly thinking of ways they can have an impact on their communities.”

One of the current projects being worked on is the creation of a new website, focused on the city being #brightertogetheryql. This is being done by the organization collaborating with local photographers, videographers, content creators and marketing teams in the city.

Economic Development Week is from Monday, May 6th to Friday, May 10th. To mark the celebration city hall will be lit up blue, green and red on Wednesday night to represent the Economic Developers Alberta. The week-long celebration began back in 2016 and the community is encouraged to take part online by using  #EconDevWeek.
