Tuesday’s downpour a historic one for Lethbridge

A pair of weather records were unofficially surpassed on Tuesday as both the most rainfall and most overall precipitation recorded on May 7th since record-keeping began.

According to Environment Canada 42 mm of rain fell in the area, breaking the previous precipitation record of 23.1 mm set on May 7th, 1968 and the total rainfall record of 22 mm set on May 7th, 1993.

As of 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 8th a rainfall warning was still in place for the region but the rain is expected to stop late Wednesday afternoon.
