Level one water restrictions are in place for the Town of Taber to help cut back the municipality’s water consumption.
As of Monday, May 6th the town has put an outdoor water usage schedule in place, with addresses that end in an odd number scheduled to be able to use water outside on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, and addresses that end in an even number able to use outdoor water on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. On these scheduled days people can water their lawns between 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. or 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. All other outdoor water usage, including filling pools, hot tubs etc., or washing your vehicle is allowed at any point on those scheduled days.
Along with the residential restrictions the town is also cutting back water usage by closing the southside Kiwanis Spray Park for the season and the Confederation Park Spray Park will only be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. As well, irrigation in town-owned parks and green spaces will be following watering restrictions and times based on their address.
The restrictions are the municipality’s way of doing their part to answer the provincial government’s request to reduce water consumption by five to 10 per cent. According to a post on the Town of Taber’s social media pages despite the recent rainfall, “drought conditions still persist in Southern Alberta and other parts of the province. These Restrictions are being put in place to help reduce our water consumption in anticipation of those conditions continuing on into the summer months.”
Water that is not supplied by the town, such as rain barrels filled by natural precipitation or private wells is exempt from the restrictions.
