Peter Anholt resigns as Lethbridge Hurricanes general manager

Peter Anholt is no longer the general manager of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The team announced his resignation on Friday, following a disciplinary investigation by the Western Hockey League.

“It was mutually determined that this is the best path forward following the conclusion of the investigation,” says Doug Paisley, the club’s president of the board of directors.

“The claim alleged Anholt breached the WHL Standard of Conduct with respect to threatening and intimidating language. The Lethbridge Hurricanes will move forward with the highest commitment to fostering a positive player environment.”

In a news release, the WHL explained that Anholt’s resignation follows the investigation of a historical personal conduct matter, which dates back to 2015. The league says that matter, “involved a verbal interaction with a player that, as described, falls outside of the WHL’s Standards of Conduct with respect to threatening and intimidating language”.

Officials add this follows WHL disciplinary action from November 2025, when Anholt was suspended, and the Lethbridge team was fined following what the league described as “a display of intimidating behaviour from Anholt during a post-game address to the team”.

“The WHL was not aware of the allegation from 2015 at the time of the matter from November 2025,” reads the statement from the WHL.

“Both claims were filed via the League’s 1-800 WHL Respect hotline, and this claim was investigated by the WHL Security Department.”

Anholt joined the Hurricanes as assistant general manager before the start of the 2014-2015 season. He took over as general manager and head coach in December 2014.

The WHL says despite his departure from the club, “Anholt has agreed to participate in counselling, in the spirit of personal betterment,” adding that, “Anholt’s counselling will be sponsored by the Hurricanes and WHL.”

INTERIM REPLACEMENT

The Hurricanes have announced that senior advisor Barclay Parneta will take on the role of interim general manager for the rest of the 2025-2026 season.

“We are confident in Barclay with his extensive experience as a general manager in our league and are fortunate to have already had him on staff as a senior advisor with the Hurricanes,” says Doug Paisley.

The 55-year-old Parneta was hired by the Lethbridge team in August 2025. Originally from Saskatoon, he spent the previous seven seasons as the general manager of the Vancouver Giants, helping lead the team to a WHL Championship appearance in 2019.

He has three decades of experience in the WHL, in various roles with the Hurricanes, Giants, Tri-City Americans, and Medicine Hat Tigers. Additionally, he spent seven seasons as a scout in the National Hockey League with the St. Louis Blues and Phoenix Coyotes.
