Coalhurst council adopts new Strategic Plan

Coalhurst Town Council has given the thumbs up to its vision for the future.

At its meeting on February 17, council members adopted the 2026-2029 Strategic Plan. The document will help guide future policy decisions, budget talks, and project planning.

“This plan outlines our priorities, our values, and the direction [that] council will follow over the next four years,” says Mayor Deb Florence.

“It also provides clear direction to administration as we move from planning into action, with decisions grounded in data, long-term thinking, and a clear focus on sustainable growth and real outcomes for residents.”

Some of the priorities listed in the plan include:

  • Economic Development – Innovative Solutions for Business and Residential Vitality
    • Council says it is committed to helping local existing businesses, improvement investment readiness and modernizing policies and processes to provide clearer, more efficient and transparent regulatory frameworks, all while balancing infrastructure capacity and long-term financial stability.
  • Activate the Recreation Master Plan, ‘Vibrant Spaces, Vibrant Lives’
  • Prioritize Partnerships and Relationships — Community Services and Regional Collaboration
    • Council says it will focus on boosting its relationship with community organizations and regional partners to improve coordination, support the delivery of services and reduce duplication of work.

“Coalhurst is growing, and residents expect thoughtful, responsible decisions that support both today and the future,” adds Mayor Florence.

“This Strategic Plan reflects that mandate. It gives council a clear and disciplined direction for the term, with a strong focus on sustainable growth, economic development, and ensuring our community is prepared for the opportunities ahead.”

In addition, council has approved a Council Decision-Making Map. It is described as a quick reference tool designed to support how councilors approach decisions in alignment with the Strategic Plan and local values.

Both the 2026-2029 Strategic Plan and the map are available on the Town website.
