A 44-year-old man from Calgary faces charges in connection with multiple cases of catalytic converters being stolen.
The Lethbridge Police Service said on April 13, officers responded to multiple complaints about the theft or attempted theft of catalytic converters throughout the city.
The LPS reported that three vehicles, all parked in different areas, were targeted.
In two cases, the catalytic converters were stolen and in the third, the suspect was confronted by the owner of the vehicle and reportedly fled the scene. Police said before fleeing, the suspect caused “significant damage” to the vehicle, making it inoperable.
A suspect man and vehicle were identified and later spotted at a convenience store by an officer on patrol. The suspect was arrested without incident, and police said during a search of the vehicle, two catalytic converters were found, along with several tools.
The 44-year-old man from Calgary faces two counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of mischief under $5,000, and one count of attempted theft.
