Applications are officially open for the Community Wellbeing Advisory Board.
The Board works in alignment with the City of Lethbridge’s Municipal Development Plan and the Community Wellbeing and Safety Strategy, which offers recommendations on how federal and provincial community wellbeing funding should be invested locally.
Manager of Community Social Development Andrew Malcolm said the City wants everyone to feel supported, and “we need the help and passion of the community to do that.”
There are eight voting positions open on the Board, and the City is looking for a diverse range of voices.
Indigenous perspectives are essential, and the Board includes dedicated seats for Indigenous members.
“Whether you’re a post-secondary student, a new Canadian or a fourth-generation resident, we’re looking for experienced and innovative decision-makers from the community to help us work towards this goal,” Malcolm noted.
According to Malcolm, the Board is an opportunity for the local community and local perspectives of residents to be included and considered, as part of some pretty significant recommendations for funding, “which impact the overall community well-being in our community.”
Malcolm explained the primary funding sources that this group is responsible for providing recommendations on are the provincial Family and Community Support Services, which is primarily prevention services in the community.
“This shows up in programs run by Boys and Girls Clubs, the YMCA, Volunteer Lethbridge, and many other local community groups. With the federal Reaching Home, which is homelessness dollars — that shows up in organizations like the YWCA, the Blood Tribe Department of Health, and Woods Homes.”
“We see a lot of the funding and the programs that are put on by some of these great organizations in our community that are actually through recommendations of the advisory Board and the work of the City,” Malcolm noted.
A virtual information session will be held at 3 p.m. on June 17.
The online application form, and additional information, are available online at lethbridge.ca/cwab.
Applications close July 31.
Onboarding will take place in August and September, with the new term running from October 2026 to October 2028.
