Missing 81-year-old hiker found deceased

An 81-year-old hiker was found deceased July 30, after a seven-day search.

On July 23, Pincher Creek RCMP received a report of an overdue hiker from Golden, British Columbia.

The man had departed Waterton on the Alderson Carthew Summit Trailhead July 16. He set out to hike the Great Divide Trail and was expected to arrive in Coleman July 22.

The hiker did not arrive in Coleman, and his family reported him missing.

The search involved resources and assistance from Alberta Search and Rescue Teams, Parks Canada Drone pilots, Alberta RCMP Air Services, Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services, and specialized Police Service Dogs.
