A Claresholm man faces charges following a search by the Piikani Nation RCMP.
Police said that on Oct. 10, members of the detachment responded to a complaint of suspicious activity at an address on the Piikani Nation.
Mounties attended the scene and said they found a Yamaha jet ski and boat trailer that had been reported as stolen out of Cardston.
The next day, police executed a search warrant on a shipping container at the residence and said they found “a substantial amount” of property suspected and confirmed to be stolen from break-and-enters and thefts of motor vehicles across southern Alberta.
The RCMP said that the total value of the covered property is about $72,000.
Items recovered included a stolen dirt bike, a generator, and a coin operated washer and dryer, reported stolen from Pincher Creek, as well as tools that had been in a vehicle reported as stolen out of Lethbridge.
A 37-year-old Claresholm man is charged with four counts of possession of property obtained by crime. The RCMP said it anticipates laying additional charges as Mounties continue to identify the rightful owners of the recovered items.
The suspect is wanted on a warrant for the charges, and police said he may be driving a silver 2010 VW Jetta or a spray-painted black 2001 Dodge Ram 1500.
The RCMP said it is seeking the public’s help to identify the rightful owners of stolen power tools, chainsaws and toolboxes that have names handwritten on them, as well as recorded ‘Scott’ self contained breathing apparatus, an Elpress PVX1300 crimping tool, two large blue electric motors, a Jetson e-bike, a Tazz auger still in its original packaging, and multiple generators.
Anyone with information on the items, or the suspect’s whereabouts, is asked to call the Piikani Nation RCMP at 403-965-2001. Tips can also be sent via email.
