Seniors’ Safety Calendars launched by LEARN, LSCO

To provide older adults with accessible information, practical safety tips, and connections to local resources, the Lethbridge Elder Abuse Response Network or LEARN is launching its 2027 Seniors’ Safety Calendar.

LEARN is a program of the LSCO, and the calendar is more than just a date keeper.

Each month focuses on an important issue affecting seniors, including fraud prevention, caregiver support, elder abuse, banking safety, mental health, family violence, grief, and maintaining independence and connection.

The calendar also provides contact information for organizations and services seniors and their families can turn to for support.

This project reflects the heart of LEARN’s work: strengthening support by educating, raising awareness, and advocating with community members to address and reduce elder abuse.

LSCO Executive Director Kaitlynn Weaver said it’s been over 10 years since LEARN and the LSCO have offered this free resource for seniors and their families.

“It’s a daily reminder about the many programs and services available to support health, well-being, and recognize the signs of and to prevent abuse,” Weaver added.

LEARN Program Manager Amy Hilgersom noted not only does each page feature useful action items to remain safe and informed, “We also receive calls from folks who let us know they were only able to hand onto our contact information via the calendar.”

“This is a tool we have been fortunate enough to be able to rely on for preventative purposes, as well as intervention,” Hilgersom shared.

LEARN calendars are free and are available at the LSCO, located at 500 11 Street South.
