A 33-year-old man is facing arson charges in connection to a fire at a hotel in downtown Lethbridge.
Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services crews from four different stations responded to the Sandman Signature Hotel on Scenic Drive around 1:15 a.m. on May 29 and put out a fire burning under a concrete loading dock.
The Lethbridge Police Service says a second fire involving a vehicle in the back parking lot was also extinguished.
“Due to a significant amount of smoke that entered the hotel, the fire alarm went off. No one was injured and guests were able to return a short time later,” reads a news release from LPS.
Charles Lewis Panther Bone, 33, of Lethbridge was arrested after police used video surveillance to identify a suspect. He is facing charges of arson disregard for human life, arson damage to property, obstructing a peace officer and two counts of assaulting a peace officer. Panther Bone is in custody awaiting a release hearing.
Police say they and emergency services continue to investigate.
