Employment in Canada soars in November; jobless rate in Lethbridge region at 5.5%

LETHBRIDGE, AB – More people are back working these days across this country.

Employment in Canada is now at levels higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic nearly two years ago.

Stats Canada says both full-time and part-time work increased in November, driving down the national jobless rate to 6.0%.

Locally, unemployment rose ever-so-slightly to 5.5% last month, from 5.3% in October. The Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region though still has the lowest jobless rate in the province by more than a full percentage point over any other area.

Alberta did see some job gains in November, particularly in the retail trade and constructions sectors, however the unemployment rate remained unchanged from October at 7.6%.

Camrose-Drumheller: 8.9%
Calgary: 7.7%
Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House: 6.7%
Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River: 6.7%
Red Deer: 6.6.%
Edmonton: 7.0%
Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake: 6.1%
