Two youths arrested in connection to Taber corn stand robbery

Taber police have arrested two youths in connection to a corn stand robbery on the evening of Sept. 12. Charges are pending against a 12-year-old boy for robbery with an offensive weapon, pointing a firearm or replica, committing an indictable offence while disguised and possession of a weapons dangerous to the public, according to police. Police did not say whether if the weapon was a replica.

Charges are also pending against a 14-year-old boy for aiding and abetting robbery with an offensive weapon.

“Since this call came in, the police officers and staff of the Taber Police Service have diligently been working these past 22 hours to locate evidence to identify the parties allegedly responsible for this serious crime,” said Police Chief Graham Abela. “I would like to thank all of them for the efforts, tenacity and perseverance. I would also like to thank the members of the public for assisting us in identifying our suspects, this is a great example of the community of Taber working together to ensure community safety.”

The investigation is ongoing and police say both will be released with conditions to appear in Taber Youth Court on October 21. The names of the suspects cannot be released pursuant to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
