Ride for Dad looking to raise money for prostate cancer

Get out on the bike and help support prostate cancer research at the same time with the Southern Alberta (Coaldale) Motorcycle Ride for Dad event on July 22nd.

All riders are encouraged to participate in the event, and any non-riders can still donate, raise pledges and attend the event.

Mark Anderson, Co-chair for the Southern Alberta Coaldale Chapter of Ride for Dad says the national organization has raised over $37-million since it started in the early 2000’s.

According to Anderson, all funds raised in a province are used for that province, so the funds raised in Alberta, stay within Alberta to help with prostate cancer research, education and treatment.

“Currently the Ride for Dad Chapters throughout Alberta are fundraising is supporting a research project at the University of Alberta into prostate cancer, which is overseen by Dr. Pink,” says Anderson.

“They’re making some really great discoveries into gene therapy for prostate cancer at the moment.”

Some of the funding will also go to support survivors and those going through prostate cancer treatment.

The event on July 22nd will be the first inaugural ride as a Chapter, beginning at KC’s Pub and will be a 245 kilometre ride through Taber, Hays, and Enchant then to the Coaldale Inn for dinner and entertainment.

Anderson says the Chapter is expecting more than 50 riders this year and will also feature some hot rods and classic cars not just motorcycles.

Those looking to get involved can register online, those are raise $100 in pledges can register for free, for those that don’t it will be a $40 fee.

Last years event raised just over $10,000 in donations, and those who wish to go but aren’t able to are don’t have a bike to ride can also support a riders by going to the Ride for Dad website.
