Lethbridge rent remains among the lowest as costs grow nationally

Lethbridge continues to have among the lowest rental rates in the country. The city ranked 32 on the Rentals.ca and Urbanation rent report in July, with the average one-bedroom unit costing $1,168 and a two-bedroom averaging $1,375. 

The cost of a one bedroom increased 0.7 per cent over the previous month and 6.1 per cent year over year. A two-bedroom increased 0.1 per cent over the previous month and 13.2 per cent year over year. 

Across the province, the average one-bedroom unit was $1,419 and a two bedroom was $1,760. The prices show a 16 per cent increase overall in rental costs year over year in Alberta.  

Calgary ranked 26 on the list and Edmonton was just above Lethbridge at 31. Grande Prairie was at the bottom of the list of 35 cities. 

Nationally, the average rent has reached a record high of $2,078. According to the report, the 1.8 per cent increase between June and July marks the fastest month-over-month increase in the last eight months. 

The average rent for apartments across the country surpassed $2,000 for the first time in July.
