Lethbridge College places 11th in Canadian College Research Rankings

Lethbridge College is continuing its climb to the top in Canadian college research rankings.

For 2023, the college placed 11th in the Research Infosource ranking of Canada’s top 50 research colleges. This is the third year in a row the college has been recognized as one of the nation’s fastest-growing research colleges. In 2021 the college was ranked 16th and ranked 29th in 2020.

Along with the ranking this year, the college also placed second for Industry Research Income Growth between 2018 and 2022. During the five years, the college had an increase of more than 1,000 per cent in research funding, a total of more than $34 million in that span.

Andrew Dunlop, director of applied research operations, says the rankings reflect upon the continued commitment for real-world solutions for industry partners.

“We are proud that our dedicated researchers and innovative applied research projects are being recognized throughout escalating national standing,” says Dunlop.

Lethbridge College’s Centre for Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CARIE) also garnered more than $9.34 million in external research funding, equalling a 32 per cent increase in the College Research Income Growth from 2021 to 2022. Along with this, the college also ranked third in the College Research Intensity Dollars-per-Researcher category in 2022.

“Through this increased investment and accelerating momentum, we foresee broadening our reach to provide even more industry partners with valuable solutions going forward,” says Kenny Corscadden, vice president research and partnerships.

“Our applied research has a direct positive impact on our local community, economy and global partners. As we continue to focus on expanding our research team, facilities and capabilities, we anticipate even more growth in the years ahead,” says Corscadden.

Lethbridge College also ranked 8th in paid student researchers, having 47 student researchers in 2022. It ranked 12th in number of research partnerships, with 56 active partnerships in 2022, and ranked 17th in completed research projects, with nine projects completed in 2022.
