City set to host Earth Day event at Legacy Park

The City of Lethbridge is marking their calendar for April 20th for Earth Day.

According to officials, the city will be holding several events at Legacy Park on the 20th, including a community litter cleanup of Legacy Park along with free compost and mulch to encourage sustainable gardening practices. According to the city, all supplies for the clean-up will be supplied, while those wanting to take advantage of the mulch will need to bring their own container.

Along with the clean-up and free mulch, those interested can also learn about other green initiatives in the community that help take care of city parks and playgrounds, adopt green resiliency strategies and along with the role that storm drains play in both flood prevention and water quality. As well, the city will be educating the community on green carts and the benefits of using a green cart or organic waste collection.

Those planning on attending the event are advised to take an active or sustainable mode of transportation including walking, cycling, city transit or carpooling. The event runs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on April 20th.
