Nominations open for Allied Arts Council’s Awards of Excellence

A call-out for nominations is ongoing for the Allied Arts Council’s Awards of Excellence, which recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses that contribute to the strength and vibrancy of the arts community. The deadline for nominations is May 30.

According to the council, the relationships between the business community, civic government and the arts community contribute to making Lethbridge a great city for the arts.

Council manager of engagement Steven Foord says the nominations are for those who go above and beyond with contributions to the local arts community. “It’s quite a long-standing award. There’s been some slight changes and additions to it over the years.”

According to Foord, the awards are part and parcel of what the council does in the community. “It’s shining a light on these people. A lot of times, their contribution goes unnoticed within the community and these people work very hard and they’re sacrificing a lot of their own time to make things a little bit better for everybody and make the arts a little more enjoyable in our city.”

It’s nice to give that recognition, Foord says. “And put a spotlight on them because they do really great work. That’s something that should be celebrated.”

The awards will be presented Oct. 9 at the Mayor’s Luncheon.

Foord adds the council’s membership drive is now on. “We’ve got AAC memberships. We’ve just put on an online form. The big news is this year, membership fees are waived for 2024. It’s free membership and a great way to get your feet wet with the wonderful arts community we have in Lethbridge.”
