Scotties bid conversation goes to Lethbridge City Council

The top women’s curling tournaments in Canada could return to Lethbridge, as the city explores a bid for the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The Lethbridge Curling Club sent a letter to the Economic and Finance SPC asking for support and  $400,000 in financial support for the bid. The administration originally drafted a motion to go against the funding recommendation, but after deliberation, the motion was amended.

To address a concern raised about where funding for the potential bid would come from, the motion was changed to allocate $70,000 from the city’s Major Event Hosting Grant and the remaining $330,000 from the city’s Municipal Revenue Stabilization Reserve.

The motion will now go to Lethbridge City Council for discussion. Lethbridge has hosted the Scotties Tournament of Hearts twice in the past, in 1987 and 2007.
