Lethbridge Diversity & Inclusion Charter signing taking place Thursday

Lethbridge residents and businesses are being encouraged to sign a community charter and commit to fighting racism and discrimination.

The Lethbridge Diversity and Inclusively Charter will be signed Thursday, November 14.

This week, City Council unanimously agreed to putting ink on paper on the City’s behalf. Victor Iyilade Jr. with the Lethbridge Diversity and Inclusion Alliance (LDIA) says that would be a major gesture.

“This municipality is probably one of the first ones to publicly do something of this magnitude to declare (support),” says Iyilade. “It shows they’re also aligning themselves with a community group that also says that we do care about furthering the fight against racism and discrimination.”

The charter signing will take place at 12:15 Thursday afternoon at the multi-cultural centre on 6th Avenue South.

The LDIA is inviting everyone, whether as an individual or affiliate of an organization/business, to commit to this vision by signing the charter.

The Charter supports the implementation of existing national and provincial legislation that promotes human rights with community-oriented goals and actions.
