One of the highlights for the Town of Picture Butte in 2025 was the completion of Phase One of the community’s trails.
Mayor Cathy Moore says the Town bought the land from CPR quite a few years ago. “We’ve been trying to do a trail system with that through the town.”
“That’s from 5 A Street to Rogers Avenue. It’s all paved. In the summer, we will have to put some trees in there and some benches,” Moore notes. “We have people walking on it now.”
According to Moore, the Town has also planted more trees throughout the community and has been enhancing more multi-use spaces and infrastructure. “That’s always an ongoing issue with every town.”
During this year’s Jamboree Days in the summer, the Town also opened its millennial time capsule.
“They put that down in 2000 to be opened in 2025,” says Moore. “We had about 500 people show up for that. We opened it up to see what was in there from the year 2000. It was quite a surprise.”
Moore notes inside the time capsule there was a real estate pamphlet, a grocery store flyer, a menu from the Town’s old hospital and school test papers. “It was interesting to see. If anybody is interested, they can go to the Town’s website to have a look at that. We’ve posted it all on there.”
A big project in 2026, Moore adds, is the Town is preparing to begin work on the lagoons and on a new subdivision. “We had another 24 lots of land and maybe seven left, so we can continue to build our community.”
Moore would like to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous New Year. “I want to invite everybody out next year for our 100th celebration. We will be celebrating Aug. 15-16 for our centennial celebration.”
“There’s a lot of planning happening right now. There will be huge things happening. We hope everybody will come out to Picture Butte to help us celebrate,” says Moore.
