Taber Community Centre enters Kraft Hockeyville contest

The Town of Taber is vying for support, following an explosion that caused serious damage in December.

The Taber Community Centre has been submitted for nomination in the Kraft Hockeyville competition. Up for grabs is a grand prize of $250,000 in arena upgrades.

One runner-up community will receive $100,000 for facility upgrades, while 11 provincial and territorial winners will receive $50,000.

The Town explains that the January 1 to March 1 stage is focused on earning points, so Taber can make it to the top communities phase and qualify for voting in April.

Officials say residents can help by:

  • Uploading photos and videos of their memories from the local rink;
  • Sharing their stories about what the centre means to them;
  • Reacting and engaging with other community members’ posts.

Every photo, story and reaction earns points for the Taber Community Centre. That allows the site to climb the rankings and earn a spot for voting.

“Only your participation can get us there- we need your stories, memories, photos, videos, and reactions,” says the Town on social media. “You don’t have to be a Taberite to share your stories and videos – if you’ve visited our arena, played in it, or have a memory from the past, you’re welcome to share those stories too.”

“We would appreciate the support of our neighbours near and far who have memories of the Taber Arena to share them as well – all are able to get points.”

EXPLOSION

On December 17, 2025, an explosion was reported in the area of the small ice arena Zamboni room at the Taber Community Centre.

The incident caused significant damage within the arena and curling rink areas, and remains under investigation.
