Lethbridge Public Library’s Orange Shirt Walk returns Sept. 27

Fall into September at the Lethbridge Public Library.

On Sept. 19, the 16th annual Word on the Street Festival returns to the Main Branch from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is held across Canada in celebration of literacy, storytelling, and the literary arts.

Festival highlights include emerging authors, workshops, interactive programming, live music, and an outdoor marketplace.

Canadian authors featured at this year’s event includes Lorne Fitch, Barbara Reid, and Robert J. Sawyer.

In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the library presents the Fourth Annual Orange Shirt Walk Sept. 27 at 11 a.m.

The walking group will leave from the Main Branch, then to Galt Gardens, and back to the library.

Regular children’s programming resumes in September until December at both branches.

Some of the programs returning include Stories & Stuff, Babes in the Library, and Time for Twos.

Try out the programs for stories, crafts, and early learning activities. Come make new memories, meet other parents, and explore something new.

Communications Coordinator Jessica Quarterman said the Orange Shirt Walk is held the Sunday before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation each year.

“We’re inviting anyone who wants to attend and learn a little bit more about National Truth and Reconciliation Day to come and join us,” she added.

The walk is for all ages and is a leisurely walk completed at everyone’s own pace.

Quarterman noted what is great about library children’s programming is there’s no cost to families. “Get out of the house, connect with other parents, and connect with other kids.”

“It’s a great opportunity to be together to learn stories, crafts, songs, and just have this community that comes together to just to be, which is a really great part of what the library does,” she shared.

According to Quarterman, the library’s new quarterly program guide will be coming out in October.

“Our October, November, and December programs are all being published on the website. If anyone wants to have a look at what’s coming up in the next little while, we’re getting all of that done and ready for the rest of the year,” she added.
