A fire believed to have been started by cooking destroyed one home and caused significant damage to another on the north side this week. Twenty-one firefighters from three stations responded to the call around 8:20 a.m. on Nov. 8 to the 1200 block of 4 Ave. N.
They fought the fire in freezing temperatures for most of the day and though there were no injuries, the home was destroyed.
Investigators concluded the fire was accidental and the home was not salvageable. A neighbouring property suffered extensive water damage and has been temporarily vacated, according to the city. Structures on either side of the destroyed home remain occupied but also sustained water damage.
The Fire Prevention Bureau is reminding residents to never leave unconfined cooking unattended.Â
