Roads reopen after downtown fire and watermain break

Roads are open again at the site of the former Lethbridge Hotel fire and a watermain break. Road closure have been in effect in the area of 5 St. And 2 Ave. South since the fire destroyed the building on Feb. 24.

A watermain break caused the evacuation of multiple buildings near the fire site on March 7. The city says the cause of the break is still not known.

“Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services have completed their work onsite of the Lethbridge Hotel fire,” reads a news release from the city. “The building has been fenced and secured and will be returned to the property owner.”

The rest of the demolition work, or potential restoration, will be at the owner’s discretion.

City officials say Downtown Clean Sweep workers will be i the area to help clean up the streets and sidewalks.
