Provincial data shows 56 people died from drug poisoning in Lethbridge between January and April

New data from the Alberta Substance Use Surveillance System shows 56 people died from drug poisoning in Lethbridge between January and April this year.

Between February and April, 48 deaths were reported. Fourteen people died in both February and March from drug poisoning in the city and 20 in April.

All the deaths are categorized under non-pharmaceutical opioids.

Across the province, 613 people have died from drug poisoning between January and April.

In the first quarter of this year, 45 per cent of the deaths occurred in private residences. The data shows 25 per cent of them happened in public.
