Lethbridge County is reminding drivers to keep an eye out and slow down for construction zones as they travel through the region this summer.
According to the county, several road maintenance and construction projects are happening in the area to help improve the municipalities infrastructure. This work can cause road closures, along with lane and speed reductions. Drivers are being reminded to slow down in these areas and be aware of the posted speed limit while watching for workers, vehicles, and equipment.
“Traffic lanes may have changed, and people and vehicles may be working on or near the road. Fines are doubled for speeding through construction zones when workers are present.”
Along with the construction zone reminder, drivers are being advised to be respectful when passing crews not working in designated construction zones. This can include crews working in graders or mowers, who are at risk when drivers pass at high speeds, projecting rocks and other debris.
