Downtown Roller Jam After Dark happening Friday

Lace up those skates and head to Festival Square Friday night for Roller Jam After Dark.

Put on by Roller Skate Lethbridge, the free public skating event takes place from 8 to 10 tonight and roller skaters of all ages are welcome to go.

According to Cherri with Roller Skate Lethbridge, there will be a short routine taught a half hour into the roller jam.

“About a half hour in we do a beginner roller dance routine to a song and it’s really simple little steps and turns but it’s so much fun when you do it as a group and you get to feel the vibe from everyone.”

Cherri mentions that rollerskating can be for anyone and that she’s seen people aged seven to over 50 come to Roller Skate Lethbridge events.

For any new skaters looking to try out rollerskating, Cherri has some tips like making sure to bend the knees and wearing protective gear.

“I always tell my new skaters, knee pads, wrist guards and helmets are always great because you never know if you’re going to fall backwards and don’t be afraid to fall.”

The Downtown Roller Jam takes place Friday from 8 to 10 p.m. at Festival Square and the event is free, those looking to participate will need their own skates as there will be no rentals available.
