Annual Step N Stride looks to raise $400k for Albertans with Parkinson’s disease

The Parkinson Association of Alberta is preparing for its largest fundraiser of the year. The 11th annual Step N Stride has a goal of raising $400,000 to support programs, care partners and support groups for Albertans with Parkinson’s disease.

The event will happen in communities across the province, including Lethbridge, on Sept. 9.

“All the money raised in Alberta stays in Alberta, so it stays within our community to support them, support their care partners, create the programs, all the support groups that we do, all the educational materials. All the money stays within this province,” says Lance Corbett, communications and development manager for the Parkinson Association of Alberta.

“We receive no consistent provincial government funding, so the majority of our funds are raised through events like Step N stride, donations or federal grants so Step N Stride, the money that is raised, is really important — it accounts for about 40 per cent of our annual budget.”

The organization hopes to see 2,000 participants this year. Last year it raised about $330,000.
