Man facing multiple charges after alleged sexual assault in a trailer

A 47-year-old man is facing charges in connection to an alleged sexual assault inside a trailer parked in a southside lot over the weekend.

According to Lethbridge police on December 9th, officers responded to the assault after the victim approached a woman asking for help. Officials say the victim reported she had been sexually assaulted by a man inside a trailer.

“She told police the same male had also previously assaulted her by causing burn injuries. Investigators determined the victim and subject, both of no fixed address, are acquainted but not well known to one another,” reads a news release from LPS.

Police say they located the accused, along with a truck and the trailer the incident allegedly happened in, in the parking lot along the 3700 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South. Officers arrested the man without incident. According to police, another woman was also in the truck with the accused but “did not report any harm.”

Malek Fares is facing charges for sexual assault, assault with a weapon and assault. He has been released from custody but is to have no contact with the victim and or the other woman who was in the truck; he also can’t go to the parking lot where the alleged incident happened. He is next scheduled to appear in court on January 16th, 2024.
