Christmas tree collection to take place in mid January

Christmas tree collection in the City of Lethbridge will be done on January 13th. According to the city, over the past 30 years, the municipality and local youth groups have partnered together for the past 30 years to collect the holiday trees.

Those wanting to have their trees collected will need to have them put out in the waste collection location by 7 a.m. on the 13th. Trees must be totally bare, with all decorations including tinse and any plastic need to be taken off, the tree stand will also need to be removed.

“We instruct the fundraising groups to leave these trees so they do not damage the equipment,” reads a statement from the city. “The fundraising youth groups follow maps based on that information.”

In the past 30 years roughly 95,000 Christmas trees, equaling 1.5 million kilograms, has reportedly been kept from being thrown in the landfill.

Residents are advised that if their trees are missed on January 13th to call 311.
