Lethbridge Public Library to hold trio of spelling bees

The Lethbridge Public Library is bringing Spelling Bees back this year, not only for youth but adults as well.

In February, the Lethbridge literary institution will be holding its first Adult Spelling Bee fundraiser. To enter the Sunday, February 24th competition, each contestant will pay a $10 entry fee. At $5 a piece, there is also the option for contestancts to purchase up to three bonuses, which will give them a second chance if they get eliminated. Those who attend the Adult Spelling Bee as a spectator can takepart in the event and help the library while saving an eliminated contestant by spending $10 to Save-the-Speller. The spelling bee is happening on February 24th at the library’s main branch, with the start time scheduled for 1 p.m.; registration for the event opens on January 24th.

Ahead of the inaugural Adult Spelling Bee, the library will also host a pair of spelling bees for youth. The first of the two competitions is the Spelling Mini-Bee for students in grades one to three at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 27th and the second youth competition is the Spelling Bee for students in grades four to six at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 10th. Both competitions are being held in the theatre gallery of the library’s main branch, and youth wanting to compete will need to pre-register.

Practice sessions for the two youth competitions will be held in the Theatre Gallery of the library’s main branch at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 13th and Saturday, January 20th.
