Lethbridge County celebrates 60 years as a municipality

This year is the 60th anniversary of Lethbridge County being incorporated as a municipality. On Jan 1, 1964, the MD of Lethbridge No. 25 and the Lethbridge School Districts No. 7 were amalgamated and the county was Incorporated as the County of Lethbridge No. 26.

The name was changed to County of Lethbridge in 2000 and to Lethbridge County in 2014.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating 60 years of growth, progress, and community,” says Reeve Tory Campbell. “Lethbridge County has emerged as an ideal place to live, work and raise a family, and I am immensely proud to call the county home.”

The county is home to the highest concentration of livestock operations in the province and generates nearly $4 billion annually in economic activity.

Since the county’s incorporation, there has been growth in agrifood and more products are being processed in the area to be exported across the country and around the world.

“Going forward, we hope to further build upon the deep legacies of Lethbridge County’s producers, businesses, and residents and to foster regional collaboration to find innovative solutions to challenges for the benefit of us all,” says Campbell.

The county says there will be events and initiatives planned throughout the year to bring the community together to celebrate the anniversary.
