Increase in loose dogs prompts reminder to dog owners from Picture Butte Bylaw Services

Picture Butte dog owners are being reminded to keep an eye on their dogs, or potentially be fined.

According to the town’s Bylaw Services department, daily occurrences of dogs exploring the community unattended has prompted the reminder to owners to ensure their dogs are being kept on their property; even when they are not home. The statement goes on to ask owners if they are planning to let their dogs stay outside during the day, because of the warmer temperatures, that they are kept in a secure place and not able to just roam free.

Also, due to a reported increase in complaints, owners are reminded to keep their dogs on a leash when walking around the community.

The enforcement statement goes on to read “Town Bylaws state that all dog owners must register/tag all dogs within the Town of Picture Butte. This helps the town keep a record of all dogs in the town and also significantly helps with locating the owners of any dogs that are caught by Bylaw Services or other town residents.”

According to bylaw officials moving forward any dogs caught roaming the community will be taken to the pound and their owners will face a $100 fine.
