Miners Days dates set and other highlights from Coalhurst Council

Coalhurst council has confirmed the dates for the next edition of its popular Miners Days summer festival.

The event will take place July 23 and 24, 2027.

Officials said that the decision was made after gathering results from a community survey, which were shared earlier this month at the Oct. 6 Committee of the Whole meeting.

Council also approved its meeting calendar for 2027 at its Oct. 19 organizational meeting, with the first meetings set for Jan. 5 (Finance and Committee of the Whole) and Jan. 19 (Regular Council Meeting).

Community members are welcome to attend council meetings in-person or can follow along online through the Town of Coalhurst YouTube channel.

The full meeting calendar is available on the Town website.

BOARDS & REGIONAL PARTNERSHIP

At the organizational meeting, council made annual appointments to various roles, external boards and regional committees. Officials noted that some of those roles will be filled by whoever is elected to the vacant council seat in December’s by-election.

The following day, at its Oct. 20 regular council meeting, the Town took further steps toward the new Regional Planning and Development Service Model with Lethbridge County, which is set to launch Jan. 1, 2027. At its latest meeting, council members approved the 2027 Joint Quality Management System in the building, electrical, plumbing and gas disciplines of the Safety Codes Act, to come into effect on Jan. 1, 2027.

Bylaws that are specific to the regional framework were also approved by the council.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT GRANT

At the Oct. 20 meeting, council approved three Community Support Grant applications. These included:

  • $500 to 4 Our Veterans in support of a fundraising New Year’s Eve Gala;
  • $500 to Friends of Coalhurst Elementary School Society in support of the Santa’s Gone Loonie fundraiser; and
  • $2,000 to Coalhurst First Responders Society in support for two open house events for Halloween (Oct. 31) and Christmas (Dec. 17).

Officials said any future 2026 Community Support Grant applications that are eligible under the program guidelines will continue to be brought forward for a decision by Town of Coalhurst Council.
