Drivers across Lethbridge are being reminded that school zones will soon once again be in effect as kids return to school for the 2022-2023 year.
Lethbridge Police Service officers will be out in full force as the 30 kilometre per hour zones will be back in effect, starting August 31st. Police say in addition to speed, drivers are also being reminded to pay attention to not only what is in front of you, but also obstacles along the side of the road that may obstruct your view of a child who may suddenly appear.
They’re also being asked to leave sufficient space when travelling behind other vehicles to allow you time to react to traffic stopping suddenly, and of course, to keep eyes on the road, and not on a cellphone.
The safety suggestions aren’t limited to drivers, however, as students are also being reminded they have a part to play in making the trips to and from school uneventful. These include check for vehicles before entering a roadway, and never run, and make eye contact with drivers of vehicles approaching intersections you intend to cross.
The City of Lethbridge school zones are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on school days, while playground zones are in effect from 8:30 a.m. to one hour after sunset, seven days a week.
