Fire advisories issued in southwest Alberta, bans in southeast

A stretch of hot weather now to start August has prompted some burning advisories in southwest Alberta.

The MD of Pincher Creek and Waterton Lakes National Park have each issued Fire Advisories.

The MD says so far it’s been a quiet fire season due to frequent storms keeping things green, however that’s ending now with the hotter weather drying out grass across the region.

You’re advised to be careful taking part in any activities or operations which could start a wildfire.

In Waterton, campfires are permitted only in metal fire pits or boxes provided by Parks Canada.

The wildfire risk is escalating fastest in the southeast. Cypress County around Medicine Hat and Cypress Hills Provincial Park has issued an all-out Fire Ban for that region, saying an extreme fire hazard is now in place.

The County of Forty Mile, meanwhile remains under a Fire Restriction

More information on fire advisories, restrictions, or bans can be found on the Alberta Fire Bans web site.
