More than 800 drivers screened in first Christmas Check Stop weekend of the season

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A solid first weekend for the annual Christmas Check Stop campaign.

With help from Alberta Sheriffs and Coaldale RCMP, Lethbridge Police conducted mandatory alcohol screening on more than 825 drivers at various spots around the city Friday and Saturday nights.

Out of that came several Immediate Roadside Sanctions including four fails, four zero tolerance for those with a Graduated Drivers Licence, and one 24-hour suspension.

There were also 13 Traffic Safety Act tickets for various infractions including seven for alcohol or cannabis and one firearm seized for safekeeping with no criminal charge laid.

Check stops will run all through December with the goal of getting impaired drivers off the road.
