Jane’s Walk events to show residents under-celebrated and unique community stories

Lethbridge residents are invited to discover under-celebrated and unique stories about the city through walking tours this weekend. The annual Jane’s Walk Festival is a global movement of neighbour-led walking tours inspired by urbanist Jane Jacobs.

The festival is scheduled for May 5-7 and there will be many opportunities for residents to engage and learn about the community.

A downtown tour of public art is set for 4 p.m. on May 5. Three different walks are scheduled for May 6 — London Road Beauties: the old, the new and the renovated will explore homes in the London Road Neighbourhood and will start at 10 a.m. At the same time there will be another walk focused on how plants help connect people to the land.

There will be a tour of the city’s Waste and Recycling Centre at 3 p.m. on May 6—registration is required.

The final walk will be at 2 p.m. on May 7 and will focus on designing a climate resilient city. It will be a slow-paced bike ride and the city says all skill levels are welcome.

Details on meetings places can be found on Get Involved Lethbridge’s website.
