City to mark Nation Indigenous Peoples Day with various events

National Indigenous Peoples Day is on Wednesday, June 21st and there will be plenty of ways to celebrate.

The City of Lethbridge will be holding an opening ceremony outside City Hall at 10 a.m., where officials and community organizations will be speaking and all residents are invited to attend.

There will also be a full day of activities at the library that includes a photo scavenger hunt, rock dot art, story time at 10:30 a.m., an Elder Blessing at noon, followed by free Indigenous tacos from 12:30 to 1 p.m., crafts and a beading workshop.

Fort Whoop-Up will also be hosting the grand opening of its new Blackfoot Gallery from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be various activities like crafts, vendors and food trucks.

Galt Gardens will also have events on the go throughout the day as well.

The University of Lethbridge will also be celebrating on Tuesday, June 20th with a smudge, round dance and refreshments at 11 a.m., Indigenous games and medicine bag racing at 1 p.m., and a Teepee raising at 2 p.m.—with weather permitting.
