Ducks found frozen at Henderson Lake; City asking people not to feed waterfowl

LETHBRIDGE, AB – If you happened to be walking around Henderson Lake recently, you may have noticed a number of deceased waterfowl.

City of Lethbridge officials say a number of ducks have frozen to death during the recent cold snap and warmer weather.

While the city makes every effort to remove deceased animals when possible, due to the instability of lake ice right now, it’s unsafe for staff to remove these dead ducks.

It should be noted that most of the waterfowl population around Lethbridge usually flies south for the winter, this year that hasn’t been the case.

Residents are also being reminded not feed ducks and other waterfowl as this provides the animals with a lack of substantive nutrition and can delay their usual migration.
